Then in august he said he will take xrays and molds....he said that i should be surgery ready in july. I hope that's true! I am still getting double jaw surgery. with the implants (cheek)

When is everyone else having their surgery? and what are you having done?

if you ahve already had your surgery what are you getting done?

I was hoping surgery would be this month or next. That's what they led me to believe. It seems like the Ortho is stalling to get more money out of me! lol My teeth are very straight and lined up so not sure what the delay is. I asked him last time if surgery would be early summer and he said it would be. He did change my wire to the square heavy duty one that they will leave in for surgery as well as took new molds to send to the surgeon. So I'm hoping on my next appt which is June 11th that he will have a date for me. I'm having double jaw surgery. Removing bone from the upper and moving the lower forward. They may move my chin too if it doesn't make enough of a difference with my profile. The surgeon promised not to make me look like Jay Leno. lol I am being a stubborn pain in the ass though and if they do NOT give me a date I'm going to ask for my braces to come off and I will postpone surgery till next year. I am getting married and want to have a baby sooner rather than later. This October I will be 34 and I don't want to wait any longer. I'm sure they will discourage me but I always get my way. Even if it means lying to another Ortho about why I want and need the braces off. I'm such a brat. But realistically if they keep pushing surgery I am delaying it. Surgery can wait for me. I'm tired of waiting for sugery! Tell me Changes09, what are the cheek implants and how do they do that????

    (First time poster)

My surgery was on Saturday May 23’rd. I don’t remember the technical terms used for the operative procedures, but I had my lower jaw moved forward and had bone grafted from my hip into my upper jaw to help fix a horizontal cant.

Now a little over a week after surgery I’m feeling great. The most painful/uncomfortable days were definitely 3-4 days post surgery. The days of having a face shaped like an eggplant due to swelling are gone. I’ve lost around 15 pounds so far (and I was already a thin guy), but now that I’m feeling well enough to eat anything I can cram into a blender, I should be able to stop the weight loss.

I like the results that I see in the mirror already, and I’m hoping this satisfaction continues as the swelling continues to recede. It’s weird seeing my top row of teeth align perfectly over my bottom row, and to be able to feel my molars actually able to close against each other (as opposed to how it was before surgery).

I will keep you posted Changes09! I hope your Ortho pushes ahead quickly for you too.
Thanks Caleo for sharing. Great to hear you are doing so well in just a short time after surgery. I like to hear positive outcomes and hope mine will be the same :)

Caleo - sounds like your outcome will be lovely (just wait til you go for your first ortho appointment post-op - everyone will be thrilled! And you'll be like a celebrity ;)) and as if your recovery has been OK so far. Keep up the eating, drink plenty of water, get plenty of rest, and do get up and about every day - it helps with the swelling and bruising. Hope the rest of your recovery is smooth.

So I had my appt. wth my Ortho. Very dissappointing though. He said my teeth aren't ready because my very back teeth don't touch. And apparently the surgeon wants them to close better before surgery. I gave him my ultimatum of having surgery before summer is over or having my braces off and postponing this. He said he put a curved wire in this time to help pull my back teeth down. He said if he could get them where they needed them by the next visit on the 22nd of July that they would try and shcedule surgery for the end of August. If not, he is going to finish his Orthodontic work and then take my braces off and put a retainer in. At my request and cost of course. Then it looks like I will be having a baby first and then schedule surgery for late next year. I'm doubtful they will get the results they need before my next appointment and I'm fed up. I was told 4 to 6 months. MAX in braces. How frustrating. Because had I know braces would take roughly 9 or 10 months I wouldn't have even had them put on this year. Grrrrr! Let me know how things go for you Changes09...

I am so sorry things are not going as planned. But you never know! My ortho also said max 6 months in braces. It's been 7 almost 8 months. My ortho is going to take molds of me next month and a ceph x ray. He also said that things are going perfectly. So he said after the molds are taken I take them to the oral surgeon and then see if I am ready. He said their is no doubt in his mind that I will not be ready. So that's good. I should have my surgery end of August....
So I guess what I am trying to say Hula-girl is don't give up. Even though we are about three months over my time frame its still going to work out....Plus the reason I am not ready is becuase my molar on the right side still has a gap....so he put in a new power chain and a wire tire and 6 hours later my gap is completly closed!!!!!!!!! So just have a little faith.....do you have yahoo IM? If you do let me know and I'll give you my yahoo IM so we can chat. Good luck Hula girl!!!!!!!!

First time posting on this site.

I've had my braces on for four years this month, and am finally getting my surgery on November 3rd! I've been on the waiting list for over two years. My OS was giving me the run around about when I'd get it done. First it was 6-12 months, then after those 12 months passed, the waiting list was another 18 months, then another 3-4, THEN THEY TRIED TO TELL ME ANOTHER TWO YEARS! Needless to say, we had a little chat about exactly how long I have had these braces (could have been off after 18 months of treatment) and how long I had been on the waiting list. I'm so excited to finally get this over with so I can perhaps graduate without braces.

I've had braces since April 2006. My surgery is October 28th. I'm not looking forward to the surgery - but I am looking forward to six months to a year after the surgery to see the results. With any luck, my braces will be off by then.
