I am getting my SureSmile braces put on Monday. I am a 33 y.o. woman and I have an open bite and some crooked/crowded teeth. The bite and jaw issues contribute to trouble with chewing, some speech diction issues and jaw discomfort. My defective jaw is genetic - Dad had it and had the old-school orthognathic surgery back in the 1980s (I remember when his jaw was wired shut for a few weeks, and until my consultation with my ortho yesterday I had assumed that my surgery would still involve a wired jaw - thank god for advanced technology!)

Has anyone out there done the combination of orthognathic surgery and the "Sure Smile" braces (which are, according to my ortho, supposed to take about 40 to 50 percent less time than traditional braces)? My ortho has told me that the braces would be on me for around six months, I would have the surgery, and then the braces would be on for another six months or so. I'm apprehensive but looking forward to a functional jaw and confidence with my teeth.
